The Incredibles (2004)
This is the most realistic animated film i think I've seen, and no not in terms of super heros, but the the way the film is shot. Director Brad Bird shot this film as if there were real actors in the scenes, he's a fantastic dirctor and his other animated films are well worth watching, especially The Iron Giant and ratatouille
4/5
X-Men Origins - Wolverine (2009)
Being an x-men fan I was hoping for more from the worlds favourite mutant, This film isn't all bad but fox needs to pull their finger out and splash some money into getting a better effects house's than who ever did this. Jacko's claws looked fisher price and were not tracked to his hand properly. It was still an entertaining spin off and worthey of a follow up....there are still soooooo many characters to explore. Go on fox, continue milking this franchise, ya know ya want to.
3.5/5
50 First Dates (2004)
This is one of the few rom coms I can tollerate.... mainly cos it's shot in Hawaii where Jurassic Park and Lost where shot. I'm still hoping that a heard of Gallimimus will chase Sam Niel and two rich American Kids through Hurleys golf course. Rob Schnieder really helps this movie too.
4/5
War of the Worlds (2005)
Great film until we reach a bloated, blubbering Tim Robbins who gives his worst performance yet, however crazy Cruise is actually funny as the crappy dad.....if only he knew then that his son was a saiyan that could easily wipe out all of Spielbergs aliens. Maybe the aliens are here for you Cruise.....home time
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe (2005)
I really want to like this film more but the BBC did it so much better in the 80's. This film is well made just a little long winded, the sequel is a lot better....I think. The kids are just too annoying
3.5/5
School of Rock (2003)
Who would have thought Jack Black would make a semi decent family film, If anything this film has one of the coolest soundtracks ever.
4/5
Dragonball Evolution (2009)
Why....
after waiting five years since the thieves of the film industry bought the rights to this film (FOX)I finally saw it. It was poop. As far as the story is concerned it works well enough to keep you interested but the lack of film making skill that went into it is obvious. Yet again Fox milked it for fun, It's a real shame as Dragonball is one of the most popular comics and Animes in Japan. If only WB or Universal had snatched up the rights first.
2/5
Love Actually (2003)
This is a great movie on so many levels. Tho very unrealistic...I mean who would have an affair with the miserably sarcastic Alan Rickman. It is also one of the best Christmas films as well....other than the muppets Christmas Carol and Die Hard.
4/5
Kill Bill: Volume 1 (2003)
I was exited to see Tarintino's next epic crime movie that would clevery intertwine narratives....But this was boring over the top and cheesey, maybe i'll give it another go one day but it put me off so much that I never saw vol 2.
1/5
8 Mile (2002)
Not an awful film but not great either. Perhaps if I liked the fella I would like the movie
1/5
Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1993)
This film is Hilarious, Jim Carrey was on top form with his slapstick below average intelligance comedey. He should go right back there where he belongs and give up on the old art house stuff.
4/5
The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008)
Finnaly a film where Keanu Reeves' wooden acting can be considered as method acting. not nearly as good as its 1951 predacessor but good none the less....Oh Keanu, you where so good in Bill and Ted
3/5
Ocean's Eleven (2001)
This film was such a let down. The cheesiest actors in Hollywood pull off a predictable and boring robbery and chat each up with one liners. I don't even want to think what the sequels are like.
1/5
Spider-Man (2002)
This was an awsome family film, if only the director didn't take his ideas from 60's camp spider-man comics. This film could have a darker tone and perhaps the goblin should looked less power rangers. Willam Dafoe is a great psycho in this film and Franco and Maguire should have swapped roles. Franco looks more like Parker from the comics and is the better actor.
4.5/5
American Pie (1999)
I guess this movie set the the standard for crude teenage comedies, porkies was so dated that someone had to revamp the genre. It's a little pathetic the whole, "to the next step" not to mention unrealistic...no girl would sleep with those guys....and that milf thing???? that ladys freakin' scary
3/5
The Day After Tomorrow (2004)
I thought that Emmerich had finally had enough of destroying new york....ID4 then Godzilla and now this.
Hmmmm.... a homosexual German that likes to make films about destroying new york....do the FBI know about this guy.
Emmerich has made a load of great movies unfortunatly this is not one of them.
1/5
There's Something About Mary (1998)
This was back in the day before Ben Stiller became the most irritating actor ever. He is actually good in this film. Matt Dilon really makes it a laugh with his un PC chat up lines though.
4/5
Gladiator (2000)
An awsome film by Ridders, the amazing fast frame rate in the tiger fight looks incredible, this is a director who really knows ho to paint with light.
4/5
Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002)
Even tho its more of a remake of the one before its still well funny, Goldmember himself was the newest and best addition to the Michael Myers crew.
4/5
About a Boy (2002)
Hugh Grant has made the rest of the world think that all of us Brits are like him....thanks pal....no wonder that kid went to skins and did a load of drugs...oh yeah and the films pretty boring. If you've seen one Grant film you've seen 'em all
1/5
E.T. - The Extra-Terrestrial (1982)
A childhood classic that was treated to a 20th anniversary patch up which looked amazing. The whole family will love this film. The earlier the Spielberg the better
5/5
Rocky (1976)
This is the suprisingly ineresting tale of the stupidest guy who the audience really like for some reason. Stallone was great as this character. I think the fourth is the best but this is still an incredible movie
4/5
King Kong (2005)
Jacko's breakthrough in cgi was the best thing about this movie. The film is gripping for the first 44 minutes until they get to the island. The computer generated 50's new york is realistic and amazing to see it on the big screen, the kong story is great but the ridiculas stampede makes you cringe. The extended cut makes the adventure much more epic. Still....I love all that stuff.
4/5
Pirates of the Caribbean - The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)
Geoffrey Rush and Johnny Depp were the real talent of this movie much like Bill Nighey is in the sequels. This is a great movie that put pirates back on the map, I hadn't thought of a pirate since I had lego Pirates. Great effects and story, the only thing that this film franchise could benifit from would be to loose Knightly and Bloom after the first film.
4/5
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)
Hayden Christensen still whined an awful lot but not as much as episode 2. I just wish that he became Vader in the middle and then we got to see him fighting in the suit....and John Williams, how do you do it? that was amazing. The ending Lightsabre battle and the jedi death montages are some of the the most memorable filmic moments. I can no longer watch the jedi kids die tho, it's just too sad.
4.5/5
White Chicks (2004)
The best part of this film is Terry Crews singing and dancing, he is a funny, funny man.
3/5
The Notebook (2004)
This is one of the only films other than The Land Before Time that makes me want to cry at the end. It's a great love story and has an awsoem twist at the end.......he's a dragon!!!!......not realy.
4/5
The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King (2003)
This film truely deserved to be the first fantasy film in the history of cinema to win best picture at the oscars....actually I think that the fellowship should have....never mind, this film rocks. I can't even remember the theatrical release as the extended cuts are soo good.
5/5
Sin City (2005)
The Hartigan story is so cool, i'm not a huge frank miller fan but this adaptation works seemlesly.
3.5/5
Donnie Darko (2001)
This film, tho meant to leave its audiences confused, kinda makes sense.....so I thought, he basically somehow works out how to time travel back in time and sacrifices himself to save all the people that he loves....right????...yeah take that Richard Kelly
4/5
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)
I'm not much of a reader so I had no Idea of the plot. I was really excited to see this film, its great but full of plot holes. Why make a guy who was a murderer only 10 years ago head of a school ?????? seriously?????
3.5/5
Shrek 2 (2004)
Not a bad sequel but the shrek films all kinda gel into one mess.
3.5/5
Big Daddy (1999)
This is quite a cool movie. I think this is one of Sandlers films that the whole family can watch. I think this movie was the prime of his career, he seemed to go down hill after this, This film has a lot of heart and Schnieder is amazing as always......
"Hip?.....Hip-Hop?.......Hip-Hop Anonymous???
4/5
Scary Movie (2000)
This movie really put the lampoon style movies back on the big screen. The Wayans brothers made a completely un-pc tasteless movie which says all the things you want to say whilst watching a horror.
4/5
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)
When you think Tim Burtom can't make any other remake/reboot movies he pulls a Michael Jackson sounding, gay Johny Depp from his notebook of pants ideas. I think the high tech camp chocolate factory was something that the fans didn't expect or like.
2/5
10 Things I Hate About You (1999)
Despite the over used plot of geek trying to get girl, this tamed down version of most teen flicks is very entertaining and worth a watch.
3/5
Bruce Almighty (2003)
This film had an original plot, good enough for Carey to get his over acting bite into and delivers a fresh, but still sometimes slapstick performance.
3.5/5
The Matrix (1999)
1999 was an amazing time for movies. The Matrix brought a new light to western action movies. The faster the fighting the better....It's a shame that all that came from it was a load of bad Jet Li movies. Although the term "bullet time" was extracted from this soon to fail franchise and spawned to another market, video games. Since the creation of bullet time video games have been getting slower for the past 10 years and it is still effective today. The Matrix has a fantastic and original narrative structure, the bullet dodging and lobby fight scenes are some of the most fantastic scenes in cinema history...... and who doesn't love Hugo Weaving and Laurence Fishburne.
5/5
Finding Nemo (2003)
Although this film really has very little stucture it's mind blowingly brilliant. The film play's out in a sequence of ramdom events. Chapter by chapter it feels like little episodes where they meet a different friend each time. Saying that, It works well. All of the characters and cast are extremely likeable. A great film for the whole family.
4/5
Meet The Fockers (2004)
This film was great because of Dustin Hoffman, he can play lawyers, pirates and now eccentric dads.
The trip to the Keys took this film out of predictable American suburbs and gave it an enjoyable landscape.Probably De Niro's worst role in a movie as he's irritating and unfortunatly not used to his acting potential, Although he plays on his old age which is uncommon in actors as they usually try to maintain their youth. The baby that says "ass hole" is one of the funniest things in the past decade.
4/5
Signs (2002)
Who thought that an alien film where you don't see aliens would be scary. Gibson is actually very good in this film. the narrative behind his character is played very well and the rest of the cast also participate in creating a misserble home. The film has a great feel good score and a fantastic ending, not to mention a great scipt and cinematography. This is my favourite Shyamalan film and think it is a great example of mixed genre's.
4/5
Back to the Future Part III (1990)
What can I say, zz top in the wild west. This movie is a part of childhood. It's a real feel good film and ties up the trilogy nicely. The way the similar events take place in different time places never gets old. It's a well made film with a different and relieving take on the previous two. All in all the films are brilliant and can be watched again and again.
5/5
Independence Day (1996)
ID4 was a breakthough in mass special effects. The multiple dog fights between alien ships and fighter jets where incredible and still look realistic over 10 years down the line. Will Smith is loveable in any role and Jeff Goldblum is one of the worlds greatest naturalistic actors. The narratives that ultimatly end up together make a great final story which is incredibly exiting and I hate to over use this word but "epic"
5/5
Cheaper by the Dozen (2003)
I don't know why I find Steve Martin so strange. Maybe it's because he's looked the same age for the past 25 years, hmmmm??????
Anyway this film isn't half as terrible as it looks and is a great competetor for classics like home alone....well it would be if it had a crazy kid throwing heavy metal objects at people.
3/5
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999)
This film had Star Wars fans going bonkers, actually people who weren't fans of Star Wars loved this film. Then out of nowhere some critic somewhere said, Jar Jar was crap.....then someone said the film was crap.....then everyone hated the film.....and yet when it came out they all saw it in the cinema 3 times, they all bought the Jar Jar towel and lunch box. Then the video then the dvd. They'll probably want to get the blu ray when it finally comes out too. If you watch the film, he really isn't all that bad. I feel that the majority flocked like sheep and joined the hunt. It's a shame because its a brilliant film. Go Darth Maul and your double sided light sabre you bad ass sith lord you.
5/5
Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End (2007)
The more I watch it the more I like it, but the swapping of prisoners and trading is piontless and poring.....did the writers get block or something.
2/5
The Matrix Revolutions (2003)
The thing that made this film for me was how the oracle said " I belived" at the end, this makes us feel once again that Neo might actually be the prophacy not just an anomalie. The sequel to the matrix, Reloaded, totally contradicted the first film which made fans loose faith in the franchise. This one line nearly saved it for me. I do like like this film, I just feel I could have liked it more. The best thing about the trilogy is Hugo Weaving spouting "......Mr Anderson" every 10 minutes, that man rocks!!!!
4/5
Grease (1978)
Ha, After watching this a million times with my sister when I was a kid and now with my girlfriend, I still find it hard to watch. the 50's cars are easily the best part about this film.
3.5/5
Knocked Up (2007)
This film is actually very funny, although in places it seems extremely crude. I don't think Rogen is cut out to be a parent yet.
3/5
The Lion King (1994)
This Film really does have it all. The sad story revived by the hero returning to save his family from his evil uncle.....McBeth methinks?
It's got comedy, love, songs and Darth Vader.......We love you James Earl Jones!!!!
4/5
George of the Jungle (1997)
I havn't seen this film in years, I think it's great for kids but adults will find it irritating.
2/5
Hook (1991)
Wow! what else can I say other than wow! This film is fantastic for everyone. Great acting by Hoffman in another comedy role and some of the best art direction in cinema history. Spielberg really knows how to make a film that you will not just watch but enjoy as well. It has not only one of John Williams' best scores but it is filled to the brim with classic quotes
"Bangerang"
"Rufio"
and
"Oh there you are Peter"
This film truely incredible and everybody should own it.
5/5
What Women Want (2001)
Gibbo has really done it all..... this film he upsets women, I mean... what a bully. Who knows who he will offend next. It's an enjoyable film, but there are more romantic and serious moments then there are comedy, I think it had a little to much rom and not enough com.
3/5
The Spirit (2008)
The Spirit opens with a mash up of noir and cgi landscapes. As it's one of the only films to extract a colour it has been considered a sin city rip off. I think it's a little hard to argue that point as all films are inspired by one thing or another. It's nice to have a film like sin city that a wider audience can enjoy. and has lots of comedy. The film starts slow but if you stick with it the characters become more loveable. Especially the hopeless villans.
"Toilets are always funny".
4/5
Happy Gilmore (1996)
Not sandlers funniest movie but definatly worth a watch. The slapstick golf tournement scenes are unforgetable and Carl Weathers is brillliant.....why does he always die in his films? Happy Gilmore, Predator, Rocky 4.....hmmmmm???
3/4
Saw II (2005)
Jigsaw is back, woopdy fuckin' do. This film is boring and pointless. The way he kills people is just stupid, try and avoid this one.....it really needed Danny Glover.
1/5
Save the Last Dance (2001)
Aaaaaaaaagghhhhhhh
1/5
Mean Girls (2004)
Nice south African girl becomes a chav....then less of a chav....the end.
1/5
Braveheart (1995)
Woop Woop, who'd of thought that Gibbo was a better director than he was actor.
4/5
The Ring (2002)
This film freaked the shit outta me. beginning scarry...middle scary...end...she comes out of the fracking tv unless you make a vcr copy? What a load of balls.
1/5
Pearl Harbor (2001)
I don't know what the heads at touchstone were thinking when they decided to take one of histories most dreadfull slaughters and turn it into a wet chick flick. It's just dissrespectfull. All of the acting is pretty poor but Michael Bay pulls of some awsome shots.
Batman Forever (1995)
Well films don't get much gayer than this, Burtons dark gotham is turned into Schumachers shag pad, the only thing that makes this film even worse is the end when U2 start playing......Bono?.....fuck off!
1/5
The Waterboy (1998)
This is Sandler at his best. Bobby Boucher is the funniest and stupidest of his characters. The film follows a ridiculas plot moved forward by eccentric characters.
It's a loveable film and Henry Wrinklers depressed coach Cline brilliantly adds that extra wierdness that Schnieder usually supplies. The film's great and full of one liners.
"now that's high quality H2O"
